Dental care for children
A positive first visit can shape how your child feels about the dentist for life. At King’s Avenue, we keep appointments relaxed and friendly, helping children get comfortable at their own pace. We’ll also guide you on brushing, diet and what to expect as their teeth develop, so you can both feel confident from the very start.

Giving your child a great start
We recommend bringing your child along for their first appointment when their first tooth comes through. This is normally at around 6 months.
During your child’s first few dentist appointments, it’s all about getting them comfortable with the dental practice environment. They may not open their mouths the first few times they visit, which is a completely normal reaction. Once we have built up their confidence, we can carry out a routine examination.
This involves:
âś“ Checking the teeth for signs of decay, erosion, or infection.
âś“ Ensuring their teeth are structurally sound.
âś“ Checking the positioning of the jaw.
âś“ Help you understand the normal range of dental development.
âś“ Give advice on oral hygiene techniques as well as sensible diet habits

We can’t stress how important it is to bring your child along twice a year for a check-up, even if there is nothing seemingly wrong with their teeth. Your child’s dentist will be able to pick up on small signs of decay, which could ultimately prevent the need for more involved dental treatment.
Almost 90% of hospital tooth extractions amongst children aged between 0 to 5 are due to decay. We want to help parents to keep their child’s risk of decay to an absolute minimum, as not only can an extraction disrupt their dental wellbeing, it can be a preventable, traumatic experience that children simply should not have to endure.

We love interacting with children and helping them to find the fun in looking after their teeth. The treatment we provide for your child is prevention orientated. It’s our mission to give your child the best possible chance of avoiding problems like decay and dental infections. Our dentists can also provide dietary advice that will reduce the sugar in your child’s diet, which alongside a good brushing routine, will significantly reduce the possibility of dental complications.
